My name is Paroma Basu. I live between Barcelona, Spain, and Kolkata, India.
I began my career as a science reporter, covering the environment and public health, for publications including the Village Voice, Nature Magazine and National Geographic News.
After working in print journalism for more than a decade, I began a self-taught transition into visual storytelling and documentary photography. I am drawn to stories of cultural, religious and environmental heritage; displacement and marginalization; and the interconnection between humans and nature.
I am a contributing photographer to the Guardian, among other publications, and am a member of Woman Photograph.
